Daniela Frasca is Associate Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She has completed her graduate studies at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. She has long-term experience on the characterization of the age-related defects in T and B lymphocytes in both mice and humans. In the last few years, as a natural extension of her previous discoveries, she has characterized the mechanisms by which obesity induces defects in B cells similar to those induced by aging, showing that obesity-associated serum inflammation induces intrinsic B cell inflammation and chronic immune activation, both leading to functional impairment of B cells and antibody responses in obese individuals. More recently, she has discovered and published that SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies are negatively associated with Body Mass Index as expected based on the known effects of obesity on humoral immunity. She has published 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals. She is currently serving as Associate Editor of Experimental Gerontology, Immunity & Ageing and Gerontology.
