Associate Professor Rene Koopman is a Research and Teaching Academic at The University of Melbourne. His laboratory is located in the Centre for Muscle Research (Department of Anatomy and Physiology). Over the course of his career, A/Prof Koopman has 86 publications studying the mechanisms underlying the anabolic resistance to nutrition in health and disease. He is recognised internationally for his studies investigating changes in skeletal muscle protein metabolism in response to nutritional interventions during ageing. His most recent work has focussed on role of iron storage and metabolism on skeletal muscle homeostasis.
